Lawrence John (Larry) Scola, 70, of Washington, died Thursday, February 23, 2023. He was born on April 4, 1952, in Canonsburg, a son of Lawrence and Margaret Zulic Scola. Larry was Catholic , and was a member of St. Oscar Romero Parish. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated Scola Custom Tile Inc. in Dunedin Florida. He held various jobs before moving to Florida including working on the railroad, Haney Barge Lines and at the Westland 2 Mine, where he was a member of the United Mine Workers Union. He graduated from Canon McMillan High School in 1970, where he participated on several athletic teams and held the record for the discus from 1970 to 2014. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Larry loved playing his tuba and was a member of several bands including, Canon McMillan high school band, VFW band, Community Band and the Awesome Second Time Arounders Band in St. Petersburg Florida.
On August 16, 1983, he married his high school sweetheart, Kristine Miller Scola, who survives. Also surviving are his brothers , David (Vickie) Scola of Mundelein, Illinois, Eric Scola, of Bentleyville, sister, Mary Jane Price of Pittsburgh; sister in law, Nancy Scola of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John and sister in law Judy.
Larry was an avid fisherman and golfer. He loved to grow flowers and plants of all kinds. He had an upbeat and optimistic spirit and was always ready to help people in need.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 7 PM, in Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor,
724-746-1000. Departing prayers will be held in the funeral home, Monday at 9:30, AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial, at St. Patrick’s Church, Canonsburg at 10:00 AM.
Burial will be private.
