John "Jack" Rodd Obituary

John Thomas "Jack" Rodd, 81 of Washington, PA died Thursday, December 28, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 28, 1942 in Canonsburg, the son of Robert and Carmie Dettore Rodd.

Jack graduated from Canon-McMillan high school in 1960 and went on to serve in the Army National Guard. On January 29, 1966, Jack married the love of his life, Sandra Lou Sollon.  Together they celebrated almost 58 years of marriage.  Jack and Sandy welcomed two sons, and together, along with many furry friends over the years, they created a lifetime of happy memories.

Prior to his retirement, Jack worked for McGraw Edison as a service parts manager for 40 years. However, he took on and mastered many jobs, including draftsman, auto body worker, mechanic, and most recently, a driver for Washington Rides. Over the last 15 years, Jack got up at 3:30 am to start the early transport shift, ensuring that he got others safely and timely to their very important appointments. Jack was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge 297 and previously enjoyed his weekly bowling nights as a fierce contender on various bowling leagues.

Above all, Jack was a family man and was incredibly proud of his two sons and their families.  He babysat whenever needed and spent many of weekends picking up McDonald's, camping and boating at the river and playing I-spy with his granddaughters.  He was a man of few words, but would certainly give his opinion or advice, but only if asked.  Two things he always preached, you can always do better, and don't drive anything but a Ford, a mustang specifically, if possible.  Jack had a quick wit and a one-of-a-kind personality that will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandy Lou Rodd; his sons, John (Leslie) Rodd, of Canonsburg, Jason (Karen) Rodd, of Frederick Maryland; his brother Bob (Cindy) Rodd, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; five grandchildren, Arianna Marie, Jason, Brooke, Lauren & Brody and several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff of Amedisys Home Hospice for allowing Jack to fulfill his final wish of being at home with his family. Their care and support were second to none.
