Sara Serenta Cargiene, 90, of Canonsburg, died Sunday, November 19, 2017.

She was born September 22, 1927, in Marianna, a daughter of Arthur "Boss" and Margaret "Peg" Risbin Serenta.

Mrs. Cargiene was an active member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, where she was active with the Christian Mothers and Women guild for 54 years, serving 3 terms as President. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America (CD of A), now the Washington Court, for 54 years. She was a member of the National Society of Registered Nurses and the Washington Hospital Nurses Alumni. She served as President of the Washington-Greene County Catholic nurses under Bishop Anthony Bosco. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 5 years. Mrs. Cargiene traveled to Italy several times and chartered a bus trip to Washington D.C. in 1971, to see Pope John Paul.

She graduated from West Beth High School (Beth Center) in 1945, and continued her education and graduated from Washington Hospital school of nursing in 1948. Prior to her retirement, she worked at the Washington Hospital for 35 years and later owned and operated Locust Manor Personal Care Home from 1979 until 2004.

Mrs. Cargiene was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. On October 4, 1948, she married her loving husband of 68 years, Frank Anthony Cargiene, who passed away October 4, 2016.

Surviving are her son, Frank Anthony Cargiene, Jr., and his wife Debbie, of Eighty-Four; her daughter, Margaret Ottena, and her husband Barry, of Houston; four grandchildren, Frank (Jennifer) Cargiene, III, of Dover, Nicole Cargiene, of Pittsburgh, Christopher (Kristen) Ottena, of Erie, John (Heather) Ottena, of Baltimore; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Caroline Ottena.

Mrs. Cargiene was the last of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Serenta, Jr.

Friends will be received Tuesday, 6-8pm, and Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8pm, at the Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, J. David Sollon, director, 724-746-1000. Recitation of the Rosary will be held in the funeral home, Wednesday, at 2pm, by the Christian Mother's of St. Patrick Church.

There will be no public visitation on Thursday, November 23, 2017.

Departing prayers will be held Friday in the funeral home, at 9:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Patrick Church at 10am. Burial will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick Church or a Charity of choice, in Sara Serenta Cargiene's name.
