Robert Allen Schmidt, 74, of Washington, died Saturday, December 22, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 10, 1944, in Canonsburg, a son of Harry and Annie Deakin Schmidt.
Mr. Schmidt worked at the former McGraw Edison, Cooper, as an Electrician. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a corrections officer, at SCI Greene.
He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force along with his war dog, Duchess, during the turbulent years of the Vietnam War. He was a long-time member of the American Legion, post 175, in Washington.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and especially fishing, and loved his Labrador Retriever's, and walking them in the park.
On October 17, 1981, he married his wife, Andrea Dziak Schmidt, who survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Tina (Gordon) Kawulka, Roberta Popoff, both of Canada; his sisters, Alice Craver, of Maine, Carol Parascenzo, of Canonsburg; 4 grandchildren, Brody Kawulak, Jordan Kawulak, Rebecca Popoff, and Ashley Popoff; several nieces and nephews, brothers in law, and sisters in law, with whom he was close.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Schmidt, Jr., and his sister, Doris Hall.
Friends will be received Wednesday, 6-8pm, Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8pm, at the Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, J. David Sollon, director, 724-746-1000.
Services will be held Friday, at 11am, in the funeral home, followed by burial in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars, post 191.
