Patrick James Joyce, 93, of Houston, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Friendship Village in Upper St. Clair. He was born November 19, 1926 in Pittsburgh, the second son of Henry V. and Loretta (Arend) Joyce.Mr. Joyce proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Throughout his life he was very civic minded. His affiliations and memberships included: Fire Chief, Cecil Twp. Vol. Fire Co.#1, Company 28, recipient of the honorary “Life Chief” designation.PA state and Allegheny County Fire Instructor.Founder of the “Super Snuffers,” fire response team at Heidelberg raceway.Member of the Veteran’s Breakfast Club and the Chartiers-Houston Senior Center, where he loved sharing his knowledge of the Depression and World War II eras.Member of the American Legion, post 902. Prior to his retirement at age 88, Mr. Joyce was employed by South Hills Movers for 48 years.
His surviving children from his marriage to Nancy (McManis) Brooks are: Kathleen Fullmer (Jim), Ryan Joyce (Audrey), Jim Joyce (Sharon), Loretta O’Brien (Jim), Nancy Sadowski (Stush), Thelma Fullmer (John), Patrick Joyce, Clifford Joyce (Delain), Lloyd Joyce, and Ken Joyce. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Lloyd C. Powelson, his brothers Kenneth, Henry, Russell, and Thomas, his beloved daughter Rebecca Radcliffe, and his grandson Jay Rhoades.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at the Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000. Services will be held Thursday at 11:30 AM at Sollon Funeral Services.
Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, with full military rites.
