Mary Vellis Selevos, 93, longtime resident of Pittsburgh's Northside, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, only 70 days after the passing of her beloved husband, Archie Selevos.  They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary and now, once again, they are together.
Mary was the most devoted mother to daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Bob Loutsion and Rena and John Mesogitis, loving grandmother (Yia Yia) to Ryan and Valerie Loutsion, Noelle and Aaron Gatten, and Chloe and Demetri Mesogitis, adored great grandmother to Colsen, Emersen, and Tatum Gatten, and Harper Loutsion.
Her children were her world.  Mary was always ready to lend a helping hand or babysit.  She was a constant figure at Loutsion's Catering where she spent countless hours beside her daughter and son-in -law, Tina and Bob Loutsion, always with boundless energy.  Upon her retirement, she was able to spend more time with her grandchildren, who adored her with all their hearts.
Mary always had a smile, kiss or a kind word to all.  Her warm heart touched numbers of people from all aspects of life.
She was an amazing baker and cook, who always welcomed family and friends to her table.  She was known for her incredible cheesecake, baklava, pastitsio, and other greek delicacies.
Mary was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a masters degree in education.  She was a dedicated educator of 48 years to the Quaker Valley School District. She had a great impact on scores of her students and achieved legendary status because of her selfless devotion and desire to help them succeed in their professional and personal lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christos and Alexandra Vellis; dear brothers, James, Alexander, and Nicholas Vellis; beloved sisters, Helen Vellis, with whom she shared her home, and Georgia Vellis Pournaras.
She had many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Their devotion and love to her was endless. She will be missed.
Mary was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, North Hills, and All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Canonsburg.
The Selevos family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Paramount Senior Living of Peters, and Pilgrimage Hospice for their undying support, love, and outstanding care. They all were truly heaven sent.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 10, 2017, from 3-8pm, in the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 601 W. McMurray Road, Canonsburg, PA, 15317. Trisagion service will be held at 7pm.
