Joyce E. Kahkonen, 72, of Washington, died Monday, April 3, 2017 in her home, with her family by her side.

She was born March 21, 1945, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Mike and Edith Fenosiff Sandretto.

She was Catholic. Joyce and her husband owned and operated Bahr Hardware Store in Canonsburg. She was the heart and soul of the business and was seen tirelessly helping customers at the store. She was knowledgable in hardware but best known as "the flower lady who knew everything about gardening," as she managed the store's annual plant season. On June 10, 1967, she married her husband of over 49 years, Paul D. Kahkonen, who survives. Also surviving are her son, Brant Kahkonen, and his wife Emily, of Wahington; four daughters, Gay Lynn Kahkonen, of Pittsburgh, Sonja Joy Kahkonen, of St. Petersburg, Florida, Beth Ann Kahkonen, of Meadowlands, Dara Ali Kahkonen, of Eighty-Four; brother, Thomas Sandretto, and his wife Natalie, of Monroeville; sister, JoAnn Teodori, and her husband Terrence, of Peters Township; 5 grandchildren, Eden, Xzavier, Joel, Kira, and Angelo; several nieces & nephews.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation and services are private.

The family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of one's choice, in Joyce E. Kahkonen's name.
