Gloria May Norwood, 88, of Sylvania, Ohio, formerly of Canonsburg, died Wednesday, November 7, 2018, after a protracted illness.
She was born December 9, 1929, in Washington, a daughter of Daniel and Fannie Gerardi Casper. Gloria was a 1946 graduate of Washington High School.
On July 8, 1950, she married Edward J. Norwood, Jr., who died January 9, 2001.
Prior to her retirement, Gloria worked as a secretary in the Washington law offices of Bloom and Bloom, as a bookkeeper to Englehardt and Power, in Canonsburg, and as a secretary at Nationwide Insurance, in McMurray.
She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, where she was active with the Christian Mothers, and served as past president of the Canonsburg Hospital Auxiliary. After re-locating to Sylvania, she became a member the Flower Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Mother McAuley Division of the Ladies' Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Treasurer of the Toledo Serra Club.
Gloria enjoyed hosting dinners for her family and friends, sewing, reading and many other past times.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary "Mur" (Roy) Bookmiller, of Sylvania, Ohio; her son, Brian Norwood, of Bethlehem, five grandchildren, Ian (Julie) Bookmiller, Bryce Bookmiller, Meghan (John) Sullivan, Leanna Norwood, and Derek Norwood; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward "Chip" Norwood, five brothers, Michael, Albert, and Ralph Casper, Louis and Joseph Musante.
Friends will be received Friday, 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, J. David Sollon, director, 724-746-1000.
Departing prayers will be said at 9:30am, on Saturday in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10 am in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg.
Interment will follow in the Queen of Heaven, McMurray.
