Evangeline "Vange" (Manolas) Contis, Canonsburg native, passed away in Sarasota, FL on April 15, 2017. She now joins her husband of 54 years, Aristotle "Telly" (2013), in the Kingdom of Heaven. She is survived by two sons: George (Adrianne) and Dimitrios (Kathryn), four grandchildren: Aristotle, Alexandra, Nicholas and Audrey; the wives of her two deceased brothers Theodore (Evelyn) Manolas and Basil (Helen) Manolas; three siblings: Katherine "Tina" (Orestis) Velisaris, Gerald (Susan) Manolas and Rita Manolas; Aunt Catharine Kisella, Uncle Manuel Johns, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Born in Canonsburg on November 11, 1930, she was the second of seven children born to Dimitrios and Anastasia (Johns) Manolas. She was dedicated to family, faith, friends and feeding others. A tireless worker who never complained she selflessly left Canonsburg High School before graduating. She entered the work force to support her family and financially assisted her 5 surviving siblings in the payment of tuition so that they could attend college. Through the late 40’s until 1959 Evangeline worked at the RCA record and phonograph factory in Canonsburg as a supervisor and left the company in 1959 when she married her beloved Telly.

In the 60’s while living in Whitehall Borough she was a stay at home mom, but volunteered as a library assistant and lunch monitor at Provost Elementary School. Following the family’s move back to the East End of Canonsburg in 1971; Vange took over the operation and management of her parents’ former convenience store, Manolas Superette. Following Telly’s retirement, Vange began her second career working the line as a chocolate candy maker at Sarris Candies where she enjoyed the camaraderie of old and new friends.

Vange enjoyed cooking and baking throughout her life and her specialties were pastitsio, dolmathes (stuffed grape leaves) and Greek pastries. She was also an avid player of bridge, double pinochle, the lottery and was an occasional visitor to the Meadows Casino, and enjoyed travels to Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada and Greece with family and friends.

Vange was also a very active member of the congregation of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church and the women’s service group, Philoptochos. She and her beloved Telly were tireless volunteers in the preparation of food for the Church’s annual food festivals.
