Maureen Kusturiss Obituary

In Loving Memory of Maureen "Mumu" Kusturiss

With faith in the Resurrection, we share the passing of our beloved Maureen "Mumu" Kusturiss into eternal life on April 11, 2024, after a valiant three-year struggle with ALS, during which she remained both faithful and cheerful.

Maureen was born on September 20, 1952, to Fernanda and Silvio Tonti in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania who predeceased her. She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael E. Kusturiss, Jr., whom she met at the age of 15, at Canonsburg Town Park. They were married on October 6, 1974. Their marriage embodied true and sacrificial love to everyone who knew them.

Maureen was also a loving mother and grandmother. She instilled a deep faith in Christ in her children and grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life. Whether planning Disney trips, birthday parties, or family meals, she created cherished memories for her family.
She is survived by her loving children Angela “Angel” (Brian) Krenzelak and Michael “Mikey” (Lindsay) Kusturiss and grandchildren, Micah, Marielle, Anna, Mikhail, and Natalia. She is also survived by her loving sister and closest friend, Amy Tonti who tirelessly cared for her during her period of illness.

Maureen was a devout Orthodox Christian whose life was dedicated to Christ and her church community. She was well-known for heading the annual All Saints Food Festival with her husband for many years, spending countless hours cooking the delicious food for which it was famous. In recognition of her dedication to her Church, she received the prestigious Medal of Saint Paul, which is the highest award for a layperson in the Greek Orthodox Church.

For her extended family and friends, and even strangers, she was a blessing. Cooking and caring for them for decades at Angel’s Acres, the family home. She was often referred to as a “saint” by those who knew her. We take comfort in knowing that Maureen is with Christ, awaiting our reunion in the Resurrection.
