Richard E. Batista, 89, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, March 23, 2017.
He was born April 3, 1927, in Strabane, a son of Frank and Frances Tomsic Batista.
He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Batista proudly served his country with the United States Navy, during World War II, on the U.S.S. Langley. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a design draftsman at Cooper Industries for 43 years. Until he recently retired, he was a member of the Board of Directors for Slovenian Savings and Loan.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 191, American Legion post 902, S.N.P.J. 138, K.S.K.J. 153, and the White Eagles, 1746.
Surviving are his long-time companion, Dottie Legerski of Washington PA; his sons, David F. Batista of Los Gatos, California, and Mark D. Batista, of Canonsburg; his sister, Sylvia Holsey, of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Brett Batista, Vyanna Batista, Jennafer Batista; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard M. Batista; brothers, Frank and Vincent Batista; sisters, Frances Kosem, and Mildred Podboy.
Friends will be received Sunday, from 2-6pm, at the Sollon Funeral Home, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, 724-746-1000.
Departing prayer service will be held in the Sollon Funeral Home, Monday, at 9:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Patrick Church at 10am.
Interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg, with full military rites accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, post 191 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick Parish, Canonsburg, in Richard E. Batista's name.
