Marcella Jean Kotar
Lifelong Canonsburg resident.
Marcella "Jean", of Canonsburg, departed this life, Tuesday, February 28, 2017, with her beloved children at her side.
She was born July 29, 1925, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Howard and Sarah O'Bryon Horstman.
She married Wilbur "Mac" Kotar, in 1942, they raised four children, and were married until his death in 1981. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her children were the "treasures of her life."
She worked as a bookeeper, secretary, bank teller, and office manager for Canonsburg Milling Company, Universal Cyclops, PNC and Mellon banks, South Hills Eye Associates, and her daughters dental practice. During her time in Florida, she worked at St. Joseph Hospital, in Port Charlotte. Later work included managing Lake Side Tavern, near Donaldson's Crossroads, and bartending at "My Brother's Place", in Cecil, and at local clubs and events. Jean, a farm girl at heart, loved gardening and working in her yard. Known for her sparkling eyes and personality, she loved people, music, dancing, and having fun. She was the life and heart of every gathering and will be deeply missed. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, Canonsburg, and a member of various social clubs including, the S.N.P.J., American Legion 902, White Eagles, P.N.U., French club and the Muse club.
She leaves behind, her son, Kerry Kotar, Esquire, and his wife Janet, of Manchester, Massachusetts; daughters, Rebecca Goldberg, and her husband Charles, of Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Pamela Kotar-McBride, of Crestone, Colorado; sisters, Sara Horstman, and John LaJevic, of Canonsburg, Susan Toler, and her husband Tom, of Sarasota, Florida; Eight grandchildren, Eric, Ryan, David, Marcey, Courtney, Lisa, Derek and Amanda; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, two brothers, and a sister, Jean was preceded in passing, by her husband, Wilbur "Mac" Kotar, her son, Randall Kotar, and long time companion, Howard "Rusty" Sala.
Friends and family will be received Friday, from 10-noon, in the Sollon Funeral Home, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, 724-746-1000.
